McCloud.
Before You Read.
Looking back on my past, I feel like my favorite cartoon was The Far Side. I really don't see myself relating to any of the characters in that cartoon though. One of the features that helped me connect with the cartoon was the humor. A lot of the cartoon's were very funny and always had me laughing.
Summary.
To me, McCloud is showing how easy it is for people to connect with comics. No matter what the comic is, whether the reader gets the comic or not, they are able to take it the way they want to and interpret it how they like. He explains about complex and basic pictures and how different they really are.
Synthesis.
The article, "Vocabulary of Comics", is very easy to relate to Kantz' and Greenes' articles. For one, this article relates to Kantz' article because just like how he explained how to argue different ways with different ideas, comics can also show that there are creative ways to get around arguing or doing something. Second, this article relates to Greenes' article because just how he used framing to get a certain point across, comics can also be used to get a certain point across by using the same techniques.

2. First off, I think that McCloud is very smart. I love the fact that he can get his points across with comics and not with typical text. He is able to use both text and pictures to prove his point. I think that having comics really get the point across and it makes it WAY more fun for the reader too. This way, the reader is really open to understanding a new idea or knowledge.

1. Actually, yes I really do think that more teaching strategies should contain more visual things. I am a visual learner and I really like being able to see something and have it explained to me rather than having to just read about it. I believe that learning would be a little more fun for people and they would be more open to learn and it would be easier for the author to get his point across.
4. To me, the mask is something that can be either good or bad. It gives people different views of others and possibly can give ourselves a good or bad view (standard). Having a mask can change a lot of things such as how you think of yourself and others too. I feel like you are always aware of others around you, but the masks just amplify what happens. It gets the people goin!
Thoughts.
Overall, this article is my favorite so far out of all of the past ones we have read. The comics made it so mush more interesting and more fun to learn. I have definitely learned a lot from this chapter.
Berger.
Before You Read.
If I were to draw a picture of a woman, I think I would draw her facing me and she would be the only object in the drawing. The scene would be calming and charming. -Something enjoyable to look at. To be honest, I don't know if I would draw her naked. I am not sure which I would like to draw more (Especially because I am majoring in the art field). -I guess I will have to wait and see which I would like to do more.
Summary.
To me, in "Ways of Seeing", Berger is trying to get the point across that women have always been under the authority of men. He says that women have always put a show on for men because they have been trained to look good. He also says that women have been like objects throughout history. He basically is saying that even though so much has happened in our past, women haven't really changed much. -They are still looked at the same as they were in the past.
Synthesis.
I guess after reading this, it can relate to McClould's article. It just goes to show that viewers will always have their opinions about how they look at a picture, comic or a piece of art. They can learn something from what they see and use it in their own lives with what their feeling was when they saw it.

2. I believe that women are sexy and therefore are able to be shown in advertisements and art because of their beauty. They really are an eye candy especially to men and because of that, more people get attracted to whatever they are portraying. I think that these pictures/advertisements can get a little out of hand though. There is a time and a place for everything.
3. Well, I think that the roles of women today are different then they were in the past. Women have definitely moved up in our society and both men and women have a fair share in power these days.
AE.
3. Yes, I think that the way that the woman is portrayed in a painting can really show what the artist is trying to get across. -If the woman is happy, sad or mad. Though the artist could also be looking at a bigger picture and saying that women feel a certain way because of what is going on with the world.
MM.
Honestly, this whole time I have been answering all of these questions and reading the material, I could not come up with a definite answer to this one. I am not exactly sure why to be honest. Even thinking about how this can relate to writing, I just don't know if I have a correct answer. Though I do know that there will always be an audience for any kind of material like this. So whatever is being shown will be seen.
Thoughts.
This was an interesting article to read. I was a little confused an could grasp everything with it fully to be honest. Not that it wasn't interesting or anything, it just wasn't one of my favorite ones to read.
Berger:
ReplyDeleteI agree that women haven't changed a lot compared to the past, but I do think that men have changed. They are not the only ones looking for power (women are) and men care about their appearance too. Do you agree?
McCloud:
I agree with you that McCloud is explaining that people connect to comics easily. People can connect to comics because they can put their imagination to the words. But you could also look at comics at a different point and say that they are not interesting because they only have words and stick figures. Do you agree?
